The report states that according to the police, Sandeep received a text on his WhatsApp number offering him work from home where he was to rate hotels on Google Maps and get paid. Kumar responded to the text and was added to a Telegram group that already had around 100 members. It started with rating work and later the group also included investment activities.
“I started rating hotels, etc. Along with these tasks, there were some investment tasks as well where I first invested Rs 50,000, but I could not earn money from the website,” Kumar said. did not withdraw money When Sandeep tried to withdraw the money, he was asked to pay an additional Rs 5 lakh as tax. In this way, he invested Rs 20,54,464.
According to the report, Kumar further told the police, “He (The scammers) asked me to pay another Rs 5 lakh as tax in my account where I realised that I have been scammed. I have lost almost Rs 20,54,464.”
Local police say an FIR has been registered against the unknown scammers “under sections 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, and provisions of the Information Technology Act.”
The victim also alleged that he was sent messages via Telegram and Phone Call He is receiving “death threats” from scammers via Telegram. “I am getting death threats from these people on Telegram and also calls to defroze the account,” he told the police in his statement.
