Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) data According to, Bharti Airtel has gained about 7,52,000 new subscribers in April. The total number of subscribers of this second largest telecom company has increased to about 26.75 crores. However, the government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has lost more than 12 lakh subscribers. Apart from this, Vodafone Idea’s subscribers have decreased by about 7,35,000 in April.
The number of subscribers in the wireline segment increased to around 3.42 crores in April. In this segment too, Reliance Jio has got the highest number of new customers at around 3.6 lakh. BSNL The net loss of the company in the last financial year was reduced to Rs 5,367 crore. In the previous financial year, the company’s net loss was Rs 8,161 crore. The reasons behind the reduction in its loss are reduction in expenses and increase in non-operating income.
In the last financial year, BSNL’s revenue from operations increased marginally to Rs 19,343.6 crore. However, this was less than the target of Rs 20,000 crore set by the central government. In the last financial year, the company’s revenue from cellular services and enterprise segment has decreased. Its expenses decreased by about 2.5 percent to Rs 26,683 crore. However, the company’s employee cost increased by 4.4 percent to Rs 8,034 crore. Recently, BSNL had issued a tender of about Rs 65,000 crore for the third phase of the BharatNet project. BSNL is facing tough competition from private telecom companies. It is launching its 4G service. Big private telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have started their 5G network across the country. This is also increasing the number of subscribers of these companies.
